Hypnotherapy for Pain - Coping with Pain

Just like our thoughts and our mindset, the way we cope with pain will directly impact how chronic pain impacts your life.

Understandably, for those with chronic pain many move less in an attempt to hurt less, however, many things that make us feel less pain in the short term actually cause more pain in the long run.

Excessive rest is not always good for the body. For example, if you suffer from lower back pain and experience spasms this can result in knotted and painful muscles. Resting will not cure this, but stretching and strengthening those muscles will.

Similarly, guarding pain can cause more pain in the long run. For example, if you have neck pain and guard your neck by turning with your body rather than your neck, the muscles in the neck will degenerate or shrink and will likely be more painful when you do try and use them.

**It is important to gain an understanding from your General Practitioner or Specialist as to any movement limitations you should impose on yourself to keep yourself safe dependent on your condition.**

Hypnotherapy for chronic pain can help by instilling suggestions that increase healthy coping strategies into day-to-day life.

If you want to learn more about helpful coping responses or hypnotherapy for chronic pain, please send me a message and I will send through a little handout with more information (the hand out brings together the information over a number of our blogs, as well as a little extra to decide if hypnotherapy for chronic pain is for you.)
